SDG programs

The architectures of different SDG implementations naturally vary, but Figure 13 contains a good one that is representative of the majority and is used in the sections to follow. Differences in algorithms (notably Carhart s ) are taken up later in the section on Survey of SDG Programs.

A brief history of the development of SDG is warranted, and in Table 34,7,11,12,14,18,21,22,32-40 present a chronological list of the SDG publications and some of the prominent programs. A more in-depth discussion of the attributes and distinguishing features of each method follows. Where informative, representative results from various programs are included. 

Like STR3, Spektren was another early program for automated structure elucidation, though its output appears to be character-based. The SDG algorithm was not revealed, and the promised follow-up paper was never published but the examples given reveal simple ring-drawing ability. 

To visualize the results of their organic nomenclature translation program, the team in the computer science department at the University of Hulp. e vyj-ote an SDG module for the IBM PC. It is character-based, like Carhart s method,but uses a customized font set of 90 characters in addition to alphanumerics, to better approximate an idealized layout. 

The ChemDraw program uses its SDG engine for interactive structure cleanup, atom label expansion, and SMILES translation. The implementation is built upon cameo s. Its novel features include the following.
