Scheme of the Mixed-Function Oxidation Reaction Pathway

SCHEME OF THE MIXED-FUNCTION OXIDATION REACTION PATHWAY [Pg.18]

A drug substrate to be metabolized binds to oxidized P-450, which in turn is reduced by P-450 reductase. The drug-reduced P-450 complex then combines with molecular oxygen. A second electron and two hydrogen ions are acquired from the donor system, and the subsequent products are oxidized drug and water, with regeneration of the oxidized P-450. This process is summarized as follows  [Pg.18]

Active oxygen complex + drug substrate — oxidized drug + oxidized [Pg.18]
