Abstract Recently, we have investigated Aconitum cochleare Woroschin and obtained three new alkaloids cochleareine, acoleareine from the aerial parts of the plant and cochleareinine from the roots. Cochlearenine exhibited antioxidant activity against DPPH free radical scavenging assay. The cardio active effect of has also have been studied on isolated heart preparations. [Pg.45]

H and C NMR cotmectivities were established by HMBC technique. Relative stereo-chemistiy of 11 was unambiguously assigned on the basis of x-ray diffraction studies. The antioxidant activity of compound 11 was estabhshed by DPPH scavenging assay (ICj, = 218.46 pM) while standard antioxidant BHA had an ICj, = 44.2 + 0.2 pM (Figs. 4.3 4.4). [Pg.48]

In Xanthine oxidase inhibition assay, the SFE extract show almost no bioactivity as the case of the LSE. In the oxygen free radical scavenger assay, the SFE extracts of Schizandrae fructus and Moutan Cortex Radicis were more active than the case of the LSE. [Pg.533]

In an analysis of the different components of the extracts of the roots and leaves of E. purpurea, E. angustifolia, and E. pallida, all possessed antioxidant properties in a free-radical scavenging assay and in a lipid peroxidation assay (26). [Pg.103]

The oxidation potentials as well as the hydroxyl radical scavenging activities for some pyrazol-3-ones have been detected and compared with edavarone s. 5-Methyl-2-pyridin-2-yl-2,4-dihydro-3H-pyrazol-3-one was found to be more effective in a hydroxyl radical scavenging assay than edaravone, with an IC50 value of 0.018 mM as compared to edavarone s IC50 value of 0.25 mM (06BMCL5939). [Pg.217]

Also in the superoxide anion scavenging assay in the phenazine methosulfate/NADH-nitroblue tetrazolium system, garcinol exhibited potent superoxide anion scavenging activity almost comparable to that of gallic acid and stronger than that of (+)-catcchin [60]. [Pg.706]

The antioxidant effects of a polysaccharide (ASP) extracted from Acanthopanax sen-ticosus were evaluated in-vitro by hydroxyl and superoxide radicals scavenging assays, and in-vivo in alloxan-induced diabetic mice. In in-vitro assays, ASP at different concentrations (0.1 -1.6 mg/mL) showed a potent scavenging ability in a concentration-depen-dent manner. Also, in an in-vivo experiment, ASP treatment significantly reduced, in a dose-dependent manner, the levels of lipid peroxidation markers (thiobarbituric acid reactive substances and lipid hydroperoxides) and increased the level of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) activities [120]. [Pg.20]

From the leaves of Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, a plant belonging to the family Rhizophoraceae, bioactive polysaccharides (BGPs) were extracted and chemically characterized. The BGPs were tested for their in-vitro antioxidant activity by means of superoxide anion radical, ABTS radical and hydroxyl radical scavenging assays. Results showed a significant antioxidant activity at a concentration of 5 mg/mL with values of radical inhibitions of 62.4%, 62.2% and 63.3% in superoxide anion, ABTS and hydroxyl radical assays, respectively [122]. [Pg.20]

This methodology was used to extract bioactive polysaccharides (PNSPs) from seeds of Pharbitis nil, an annual climbing herb belonging to the family Convolvulaceae. The chemical analysis of PNSPs showed contents of sugar, uronic acid and proteins of 83.6 1.61, 21.8 1.25 and 16.4 0.88% (w/w), respectively. The antioxidant activity of PNSPs was evaluated in-vitro by using ABTS and DPPH radical scavenging assays. At a concentration of 5 mg/mL, PNSPs exhibited values of radical inhibitions of 100% and 89.6% in ABTS and DPPH assays, respectively [123]. [Pg.21]
