Saturated Monocyclic Alicyclics

The acyclic aliphatic hydrocarbons have the general formula CnH2n + 2 cyclic saturated hydrocarbons (alicyclic hydrocarbons) have the general formula CnH2n (if monocyclic), CnH2n 2 (if bicyclic), etc. The structures of these hydrocarbons may be represented in the chemical literature in various ways some common conventions which are used freely in texts are illustrated here. 

Cycloalkanes - Saturated monocyclic hydrocarbons (with or without side chains). See alicyclic compounds. Unsaturated monocyclic hydrocarbons having one endocyclic double or one triple bond are called cycloalkenes and cycloalkynes, respectively. [5]... 

Naphthenic Acids Acids derived from crude oil which are usually monocarboxylic, monocyclic, and completely saturated. Many are derivatives of cyclopentane and more complex alicyclic ring systems. 

In our catalog, we have considered three types of components with hydroxyl groups (1) components with a carboxyl group and its hydroxyl group (discussed in Chapter IV), (2) components with an hydroxyl group attached to a monocyclic or polycyclic benzenoid nucleus, that is, a phenol (discussed in Chapter IX), and (3) an hydroxyl group attached to a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic, alicyclic, or nonbenzenoid nucleus, which may or may not include another functional entity. Several new papers have been published by Krivdin and co-workers on non-empirical calculations of carbon-carbon couplings across one bond. They include a reference data set and a practical guide for structural elucidation of saturated carbocycles, studies on monocyclic alkanes, nine classical caged polycycloalkanes such as, for example, adamantane and diamantane, bicyclobutane-containing polycycloalkanes, aliphatic and alicyclic oximes, and studies on rotational conformations of hydroxyl groups in pyranose, furanose and septanose rings. ...
