One of the most attractive aspects of FTIR spectroscopy is its ability to deal with a great number of sampling techniques, making it a versatile method which can be adapted to the study of a wide range of materials.

Sampling for vibrational spectroscopy is an extensive subject. Only the basic methods will be discussed here. Since glass and polymers absorb strongly in the IR region, it is necessary to use ionic materials to contain samples. Typical examples are listed in Table 4.
