Safety pin

Delicate forceps, needles, thread, scissors, and safety pins. 

Demonstrations (a) Balloons and safety pin (see Chapter 13, p. 121). Afterwards, put fractured edges of balloon rubber on overhead to show that wavy fracture path closely parallels that seen when metals have undergone fast fracture, (b) for Sellotape (see Chapter 13, p. 122). 

A safety pin, which would prevent accidental operation, was not in place. 

PRECAUTION Since there is no safety pin in this device, beyond the cotter pin, extra care must be used to prevent accidental operation. 

Make sure the safety pin is securely in place, then unscrew the fuse assembly from the mortar shell by using one wrench on the shell body and one on the fuse—working in opposite directions. See Figure 48.

For its functioning, remove the safety pin and pull the T-ring vigorously in order to draw the coated wire thru flash compn. This ignites the powder-train delay and about 8 seconds later the delay fuse explodes the blasting cap (Ref 30a, pp 47-8 and Ref 32b,...

Fuze M524A5 has been used by the Army, while its modified version, designated as M524E7 has been used by the Navy and by the Marine Corps. This version contains two safety pins and the fuze plunger is redesigned so as to prevent the removal of the plunger safety pin if the arming mechanism starts to arm...
