Safety in the use of milling machines

These cause entanglement injuries such as broken bones, dislocations, lacerations and amputations. 

Remember that you have a duty under the various health and safety regulations already covered in Chapter 1. To avoid the risk of accident  

Ensure workpiece and workholding equipment (e.g. vice) is securely clamped. 

Make sure safety limit stops are present and in the correct position. 

Always isolate the machine when changing the chuck, arbor or cutter. 

Entanglement and contact with rotating cutters when  

Ensure guard is in position to avoid contact with cutter, swarf and coolant. 

Take great care before engaging automatic feeds and ensure table traversing handle is disengaged.
