Rydberg spectra

Ionization energies from Rydberg spectra (ft), photoelectron spectroscopy (i,j,k), mass spectrometry (1)... 

The prediction of molecular Rydberg spectra, as well as the analysis of the available laboratory data, has constituted a challenge on the theory. A number of ab initio calculations have been carried out on transition probabilities of Rydberg molecules, such as the frequently quoted Hartree-Fock (HF) study of H3 by King and Morokuma (15), the self-consistent-field frozen-core calculation with floating-spherical-Slater-type orbitals (FSSO) on the second-row Rydberg... 

Construction of eigenfunctions in the third range and of their connection with the Ku (r) matrix in the transition range will be required to provide a transparent interpretation of the observed Zeeman effect on Rydberg spectra. 

Spectroscopy on the hydrogen molecular ion is difficult. Early results came from photoelectron (14), photoionization (15) and Rydberg spectra (16). Dehmelt and Jefferts (17) succeeded in measuring the radiofrequency spectra of H+ and characterizing the hyperfine structure in the vibrational levels v=4-8. 

The study of Rydberg spectra and ionization thresholds of ten lanthanides and actinides has been reported by PAISNER et al. [8.80]. In these experiments, high-lying states were accessed by time-resolved stepwise excitation using pulsed dye lasers tuned to resonant transitions. Atoms excited to levels within 1000 cm of the ionization limit were then photoionized by 10.6 ym radiation from a pulsed CO2 laser. The measurements allowed the accurate determination of ionization thresholds from Rydberg convergences to within 0.0005 eV.
