Rule-breaking management

Crowley first became involved with the Golden Dawn in 1898 and soon managed to earn the hatred of Yeats, Waite, and MacGregor Mathers. In 1900 he helped to add to the turmoil that caused the break up of the society. While in Egypt in 1904, he founded his own occult movement called Thelema. Crowley said that the Egyptian god Horus contacted him and appointed him as the god s chosen prophet and scribe. Through his minister, Aiwass, Horus dictated a text to Crowley. The result was Crowley s most famous book, The Book of the Law, in which he laid out the official doctrine of the new Aeon of Horus. The most important rule of the doctrine, and the one most often quoted is, "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law."2... [Pg.108]

Errors of intent are a special type of error that occur when supervision or management knowingly decide to override the normal operating or safety procedures. They may either break a rule, such as deliberately not following a procedure, or violate the intent of a standard policy. For example, an operations supervisor may choose to ignore a lab result or an instrument reading, either because they do not believe it or because they are prepared to override the implications of that undesirable piece of information. [Pg.686]

As to safety, all employees must know their company s rules of life and understand that breaking any of these rules will result in disciplinary action. These are the rules that the company will always enforce with disciplinary action when necessary. They are also the rules that are critical to protecting people s lives. The line must be clearly drawn in the sand, and when employees step over the line, the result needs to be disciplinary action. Both employees and supervisors need to clearly understand these requirements. Further, supervisors and managers should understand that they too are subject to disciplinary action if they fail to consistently enforce basic safety rules. [Pg.16]

What about progressive discipline Whenever I teach behavior management principles and procedures, the question of how to deal with the repeat offender frequently comes up. Are there not times when punishment is necessary Does not an individual who "willfully" breaks the rules after repeated warnings or confrontations... [Pg.219]

It is an accepted part of safety programming that new workers abide by facility safety rules based on what they see and hear. If a new worker observes that fellow workers habitually break safety rules, the new worker can easily join this parade. If a supervisor talks with the new employee and never inquires about the worker s failure to wear required PPE, a big message about management commitment is being sent. [Pg.37]
