Round-Up Ready

Initial efforts by workers at the Institute for Reference Materials and Measurement (IRMM), Geel, Belgium, to produce certified reference materials for GMOs have demonstrated that the provision of suitable reference materials is not easy and that together with the development of suitable analytical methods there are many challenges to be solved ahead. The first two examples produced jointly by the IRMM in Belgium and Fluka Chemie AG in Switzerland were based on Round-Up Ready Soya and BT 176 Maize. The reference materials are needed to validate EU and Swiss regulations which permit non-GMO products to be contaminated by up to 1 % GMO material and still be accepted. [Pg.171]

Although we will not get to herbicides until later, it is appropriate to mention a very popular herbicide here. Glyphosate (also widely known as Round-Up) is the most widely used pesticide in the United States. In 2001, 40-50 million kilograms of glyphosate was used in the United States. This herbicide is used in conjunction with Round-Up Ready corn and soybeans, crops that have been genetically modified to be resistant to Round-Up. Thus, the entire field can be sprayed, and the weeds will die but the crop will not. [Pg.164]

Fujiwara sent him back with a number of other young Sumatrans he rounded up in Malaya, but no physical support at all. He had expected at best some sabotage in Japan s favour. But despite the changes of the 1930s, Aceh proved as ready as ever to revolt. After an initial uprising... [Pg.125]

The round-up lathe. There are advantages in partially rounding up the log prior to passing it to the main lathe. In the round-up lathe the eccentricity, sweep and taper of the log are largely removed until recovery of short lengths or widths of veneer appears viable, at whieh point the bolt is prepared and ready for the main lathe. The round-up lathe reduees significantly the amount of unproductive time at the main lathe. Furthermore, any dirt or stones clinging to the log mark the round-up knife rather than the main veneer knife which must be kept in perfect condition if it is to cut quality veneer. [Pg.408]

E. Machine Gun Chronograph, also called Printing or Recording Chronograph. It operates in the same manner as counter chronograph, except that it can record (on electrosensitive papers) time intervals of machine gun and automatic cannon fire. It can reset itself, and can be ready for the next round at rates up to 9000 rounds per minute. In addn to recording velocities of each round fired, the instrument records rate of fire. [Pg.93]

(c) The finished constriction, (d) An alternative anangement of (a), (e) Shows tlie movement of the handlamp necessary to heat tlie glass unifoimly all round. [Pg.77]

The chemist is now ready to distill the methamphetamine. He adds three boiling chips to the 500 ml round bottom flask and sets up the glassware for fractional distillation as shown in Figure 5. The 500 ml flask sits directly on the heat source. The glass-packed claisen adapter is the proper fractionating column. The collecting flask is a 250 ml round bottom flask. Tap water is used in the condenser. [Pg.18]
