ROS Scavenging activity

The most recent advances on enzymatic inhibition are related to endonucleases and polymerases. A tris-malonic acid fullerene derivative can interfere with DNA restrictive enzymatic reactions, demonstrating a dose-dependent inhibition of these enzymes, with an IC50 in the micromolar range. The addition of ROS scavenger does not revert the enzymatic activity, indicating that the fullerene action should be exerted in a direct way (Yang et al., 2007d). [Pg.11]

In a study NSAIDs indomethacin (2-[l-(4-chlorobenzoyl)-5-methoxy-2-methyl-indol-3-yl]acetic acid), acemetacin (l-[p-chlorobenzoyl]-5-methoxy-2-methylindole-3-acetic acid carboxymethyl ester), and etodolac (( )-l,8-diethyl-l,3,4,9-tetrahydropyrano-(3,4-b)indole-l-acetic acid) were tested on different ROS generating systems (Fig. 1). There are some satisfactory results that confirm that the anti-inflammatory activity of these compounds may be also partly due to their ability to scavenge ROS and RNS. The observed effective scavenging activity may contribute to the anti-inflammatory therapeutical effects [92,100]. [Pg.152]

Most tea polyphenols with cancer chemopreventive activities possess antioxidant activity it shonld be emphasized that in addition to acting as ROS scavengers, these componnds can act through multiple mechanisms to modulate the functions of... [Pg.172]

Another important fact related to the induction of the cell differentiation is the antioxidant activity that these compounds have. The tumoral cells have lower antioxidant levels therefore, ROS scavengers might induce this differentiation. [Pg.709]
