It has been well recognized from the various studies, as indieated above, that for effective toughening, the concentration of rubber should be above a critical level, which in turn depends on the rubber particle size. Combining these two independent parameters into a single parameter, Wu proposed the concept of critical surface-to-surface inter-particle distance (r), also termed as the critical matrix ligament thickness , as the single key [Pg.243]

Thus the rubber particle size, distribution, and inter-particle distance are all veiy important parameters related to the impact toughness. Borggreve et al. [50] also found that the ductile-brittle transition of the polyamide blend is shifted to low temperature, by choosing a low Tg, low modulus rubber, as well as controlling the rubber particle size ( 1 pm) and volume fraction. [Pg.245]
