In Sect. 2.2 we discussed the relationship between phs and ideal polymers in the depletion interaction between flat plates and between spheres. It turns out that the depletion thickness 6 of ideal polymers in the case of a flat plate is given by 

The depletion thickness of an ideal polymer around a cylinder requires a numerical calculation (see [21]). For practical purposes an empirical expression was given that describes the numerical data with an accuracy within a percent for q = 2Rg/D values up to 100 [21],
