The lens selection effective for specific wavelengths often results in colored lenses, sometimes very dark colors, and the result can be a reduction in the ability to see indicator lights, perhaps carry out delicate hand operations, or the failure to see tripping hazards. Nevertheless, it is important to learn to work with these safety goggles, since many incidents have occurred because an experienced researcher decided that it was okay to do this work without safety goggles. When sorting the database by scientific settings, 67 incidents are listed and in 45 (67%) of these incidents no eye protection was worn.
