Ritz correction

The following table gives the values of the Rydberg and Ritz corrections and their ratio, determined from the spectra of the alkali metals, whose structure is especially simple. 

For this the /-terms are used with the exception of Li, the p-term of which serves for the calculations Rb is omitted on account of its somewhat anomalous Rydberg and Ritz correction. (In a correctly ordered table, all differences denoted by the same label (e.g., A12) must exhibit the same value to within experimental error, in accordance with the Ritz combination principle. The value found for A (A ) is the observed energy separation between vibrational levels m and n in the upper (lower) electronic state.) Determine the vibrational constants m", co g, cOgX e, co e e and (if possible) to"y", cOg/g from these data. 

As has already been noted, in the Ritz method one can use any complete set of functions that satisfies the boundary conditions for the solution of the differential equation. Therefore the possibility of improving the method exists. Generally, it is the case that higher orders converge faster to the correct solution with increasing quality of the first order.
