RING RINGs-TRIMs

The plug, cage, seat ring, and associated seals are laiovvn as the trim, A kev feature of globe valves is that thev allow maintenance of the trim via a removable bonnet without removing the valve bodv from the line. Bonnets are tvpicallv bolted on but rnav be threaded in smaller sizes. 

Pipe component ends shall be trimmed as shown in Figs. GR-3.4.3(c) and (e) to correct internal misalignment. Such trimming shall not reduce the finished wall thickness below the required minimum wall thickness, tm. To fit backing rings, see Figs. The TBS protecting group is selectively cleaved in the first step. The released propargylic alcohol is then reduced with Red-AI to an allylic alcohol. Reduction of the propargylic alcohol occurs selectively trims. Since during this reaction a five-membered ring system 41 is created through coordination of aluminum with the alkox-ide, it is assured that aluminum is located m the 3-position relative to the alkoxide. 

Chapter 26 introduced the strategy of reconnection and that is indeed the main strategy for the synthesis of 1,6-diCO compounds. But there is a big difference from what we have seen before. We no longer trim off some atoms at the far end of the alkene to be cleaved. Instead we reconnect intramolecularly so that the marked atoms C-l and C-6 form a ring 4 and the bond between these atoms must be made weaker than any other bond in the molecule. Ironically we can do this by making it a double bond 5.
