Ring Disulphides, including Sulphur-containing Cyclophanes

Large Ring Disulphides, including Sulphur-containing Cyclophanes.—Much of the work in this area has been summarized in a general review on cyclophanes, and in four full papers which discuss in detail a considerable [Pg.176]

Three methods have been employed for the removal of the sulphur and the conversion of, for example, [3,3]metacyclophanes into a [2,2]metacyclo-phane. Pyrolysis of the bis-sulphones has been found to occur at temperatures above 500 °C under reduced pressure to aifOTd in good to excellent yields various [2,2]cyclophanes, e.g. (137) to (138) in 90% [Pg.177]

The synthesis of sulphur-containing macrocycles related to the crown ethers has been reported. In several examples the successful inclusion of sodium ion into the cavity, as measured by the solubility of sodium permanganate in benzene containing the macrocycle, was observed.  [Pg.179]
