Rhodium carboxylates chemotherapy

Apart from catalytic reactions in organic and industrial chemistry there are few practical applications of rhodium complexes. Recently some interest has been shown in the use of rhodium(II) carboxylates in chemotherapy. Generally it appears that the rhodium(II) complexes are less effective than those of platinum(ll),23 although they also appear to induce less unwelcome side effects than do the platinum(II) complexes. They may have some promise as radiation sensitizers, although this is more probably due to the high atomic number of rhodium than any specific pharmaceutical properties.
