Rhenium -polypyridyl complexes

Keywords CO reduction, cyclic voltammetry, polymetalhc complexes, rhenium polypyridyl, spectroelectrochemical analysis... [Pg.175]

The bimetallic complex [Re(CO)3Cl]jtbpq synthesized in this work showed the typical spectroscopic and electrochemical behavior based on analogous polypyridyl complexes of rhenium(l). Re(l) dn tpbq n charge transfer transition and ligand-field n- n transitions are observed. Typical redox behavior of this system consists of Re /Re oxidation and tpbq/tpbq reduction. Such electrochemical activity, particularly in the reductive region, is found ideal for catalytic processes such as CO reduction. IR-SEC studies have shown that the reduction process occurring at -0.50... [Pg.183]

Polypyridyl ligands are able to stabilize electron-rich metal centers as has been shown for the d -systems Ru and Os. This suggests this class of ligands also to be appropriate for rhenium(I) compounds, and this will be discussed more in detail in Section 5.3.2.7.2, and rhenium(II) complexes which represent intermediates in the syntheses of the Re species or are accessed by oxidation of Re. ... [Pg.351]

The ability of polypyridyl ligands to accept electron density from electron-rich rhenium centers and, thus, to contribute to the stabilization of rhenium complexes with the metal in low oxidation states has already been discussed for rhenium(II) compounds. Only small modifications to the polypyridyl ligand or the metal center can create dramatic differences in the properties of the resulting complexes. Generally, the starting materials which have been introduced as precursors for rhenium(II) polypyridyl complexes in Section 5.3.2.6.2, are also appropriate for the synthesis of related rhenium(l) compounds. [Pg.358]

The stability of the polypyridyl rhenium(I) compounds mentioned above stimulated applications of this coordination chemistry. Thus, new heterotopic bis(calix[4]arene)rhenium(I) bipyridyl receptor molecules have been prepared and shown to bind a variety of anions at the upper rim and alkali metal cations at the lower rim. A cyclodextrin dimer, which was obtained by connecting two permethylated /3-cyclodextrins with a bipy ligand, was used for the preparation of a luminescent rhenium(I) complex. The system is discussed as a model conipound to study the energy transfer between active metal centers and a bound ditopic substrate. The fluorescence behavior of rhenium(I) complexes containing functionalized bipy ligands has been applied for the recognition of glucose. ... [Pg.359]

Another type of mixed ligand technetium or rhenium complexes in the above sense contains two or more monodentate ligands (Fig. 26b). The six-coordinated polypyridyl-thiolato complexes of rhenium(V) [ReO(terpy)(SR)2] + [186] are an example. Further representatives are a variety of mixed-ligand complexes, combining tetramethylthiourea with dimethyldithiocarbamate [TcO(tu)2-((CH3)2NCSS)]2+ [194],... [Pg.112]
