Revival of plants

Growing demand for higher plasticizer alcohols has initiated a revival of the old cobalt technology. New patents about process modifications [86,87] and the construction of new plants underline this. Alone the production of isononanol on the basis of dibutene has been a success story, doubling the production to well beyond 1 million mty-1 within a few years. [Pg.40]

Early work on a-D-mannosidase of plant origin, notably in almond emulsin, has been described.1 There has been a revival of interest in the enzyme from all sources, and an extensive survey of plant... [Pg.401]

Many of these so-called natural products were first used without any knowledge of their chemical composition. As organic chemistry developed, though, chemists learned how to work out the structures of the compounds in natural products. The disease-curing properties of limes and other citrus fruits, for example, were known for centuries but the chemical structure of vitamin C, the active ingredient, was not determined until 1933. Today there is a revival of interest in folk remedies, and a large effort is being made to identify medicinally important chemical compounds found in plants. [Pg.1019]

The ionic concentration to be treated is an overriding consideration governing the cost of plant of a given design and therefore for very high ion concentrations it is foreseeable that membrane pretreatments such as reverse osmosis and electrodialysis will continue to fulfil an important role as might a more widespread revival of continuous countercurrent ion exchange. [Pg.275]

Throughout the ages plants have been the source of medicinal agents. Today a revival of thousand-years-old herbal remedies and a return to the ancient form of medicine is observed. Herbal remedies are common in Asia and Europe, particularly in Germany, France and Italy. More and more Americans are supplementing and replacing prescription medicines with various medicinal herbs. [Pg.313]

The toxicity of H to a variety of phytoplankton and aquatic plants (water milfoil, parrot s feather, and water crowfoot) was tested under static conditions at concentrations of 5 and 50 mg/L (Buswell et al. 1944). H had no effect other than a delay of phytoplankton succession by 2-3 d and an initial wilting followed by revival of the higher plants. [Pg.133]

Revival of a plant may or may not need all these. It may appear attractive to invest for revival of an old plant especially if the price quoted for it is quite low. However, before investing funds in such venture, one should find out the reasons why it was idle or stopped. [Pg.332]
