Marfey s reagent (1 -fluoro-2,4-dinitrophenyl-5-L-alanine amide FDAA) was used to prepare diastereomeric derivatives of 22 amino acids, which were then separated on Whatman C-18F layers developed for 83 mm in an SB/CD chamber with mobile phase consisting of methanol and 0.3 M aqueous sodium acetate adjusted to pH 4 by the addition of 2 M HCl. Zone detection was made under 254 nm UV light.

Maximum Ri differences between d- and L-isomers ranged from 0.06 to 0.22 at the optimum mole fraction of methanol/buffer for each compound, which were determined to be 0.07-0.53 [51].
