In young rats, McArthur (1952) found no lipid present in the interstitial cells after hypophysectomy. If such rats received injections of a urine concentrate containing luteinizing hormone, the interstitial cells grew and acquired lipid which was reactive by a variety of methods for steroids as well as for carbonyl groups. [Pg.196]

Histochemical study has shown that lipid droplets reacting by the various tests so far developed for steroids and carbonyl groups are normally present in the cells of the theca interna of the follicle, in the [Pg.196]

In the histophysiological study of the ovary, interest has centered on two main points (1) which tissues produce the different ovarian hormones (estrogens, progesterone, and possibly androgen), and (2) the identification of the periods of active secretion. The histochemical methods have also been used in the attempt to characterize ovarian tumors. [Pg.197]
