Some systematic studies on the different reaction schemes and how they are realized in organic reactions were performed some time ago [18]. Reactions used in organic synthesis were analyzed thoroughly in order to identify which reaction schemes occur. Nebularine. Nebularine(44) is a naturaHy occurring purine riboside isolated from S.jokosukanensis (1,3,4). It is phosphorylated, and inhibits purine biosynthesis and RNA synthesis, but is not incorporated into RNA by E. coli RNA polymerase. Polychlorinated Pesticides. A once substantial but now diminished use for DCPD is in the preparation of chlorinated derivatives for further use or synthesis into pesticide compounds (see Insectcontrol technology). Soil permanence and solubiUty of the products in human fatty tissues have considerably restricted the use of these compounds. The more prominent chlorinated pesticides were aldrin, dieldrin, chlordane, and heptachlor, all of which use hexachorocyclopentadiene as a starting material. These a-acylaminoketones also provided a convenient synthesis of thiazoles on treatment with phosphorus pentasulfide (Gabriel s method). Although yields range from 45 to 80%, substituents are usually restricted to alkyl, aryl and alkoxy derivatives. Thus, reaction of the a-acylaminoketone (4) with P4S1Q gave the thiazole (5), and thiazole (7) itself was prepared in this manner in 62% yield from formylaminoacetal (6) (14CB3163). Use of mesoionic ring systems for the synthesis of five-membered heterocycles with two or more heteroatoms is relatively restricted because of the few readily accessible systems containing two heteroatoms in the 1,3-dipole. They are particularly suited for the unambiguous synthesis of pyrazoles as the azomethine imine is contained as a masked 1,3-dipole in the sydnone system. An attractive feature of their use is that the precursor to the mesoionic system may be used in the presence of the cyclodehydration agent and the dipolarophile, avoiding the necessity for isolating the mesoionic system. [Pg.149]
