Residual rays

By measurement of the wave length of the residual rays, for instance with a diffraction grating, it is possible to get a direct measurement of the maximum frequency in the optical band of the vibration spectrum of an alkali halide. If we treat the spectrum by the Debye method, regarding... [Pg.254]

The strong absorption in the far infrared part of the spectrum [residual ray region LiF 26 (x, NaCl 52 (x, KBr 87 (x, TIBr 1 i7(x] does in fact prove the presence of vibrating charges, but molecules of a strongly polar nature would also produce a similar absorption. [Pg.26]

The wavelengths corresponding to the absorption frequencies are also known as residual rays or, from the German, Reststrahl wavelengths. [Pg.5]

At long wavelengths reflection filters can be based on the residual ray effect (Hagen Rubens, 1903). At certain frequencies the crystal lattice vibration is being excited and the crystal reflects well (Czerny, 1930 Strong, 1958). [Pg.190]

While with-in the mobile x-ray system, the waste in the sampler, is contained within a replaceable (and disposable) polyvinyl chloride (PVC) sleeve with a wall thickness of approximately 0.2-inches and a sealed bottom. It was anticipated that the PVC tube or sleeve would, with use, become highly contaminated with waste residues which drip of fall-off the sampler. The sleeve is coated with a conductive coating to prevent static electricity buildup . There are no sources of ignition in this sealed spare. The sampler (and waste) is coupling which includes a positive pressure gasket. This barrier is further isolated by a second barrier consisting of an epoxy coated aluminum sleeve also sealed-off from the main x-ray cabinet and PVC sleeve. There are also no potential sources of ignition in this isolated secondary space as well. [Pg.611]

They compared the PME method with equivalent simulations based on a 9 A residue-based cutoflF and found that for PME the averaged RMS deviations of the nonhydrogen atoms from the X-ray structure were considerably smaller than in the non-PME case. Also, the atomic fluctuations calculated from the PME dynamics simulation were in close agreement with those derived from the crystallographic temperature factors. In the case of DNA, which is highly charged, the application of PME electrostatics leads to more stable dynamics trajectories with geometries closer to experimental data [30]. A theoretical and numerical comparison of various particle mesh routines has been published by Desemo and Holm [31]. [Pg.369]

Manufacturing processes have been improved by use of on-line computer control and statistical process control leading to more uniform final products. Production methods now include inverse (water-in-oil) suspension polymerization, inverse emulsion polymerization, and continuous aqueous solution polymerization on moving belts. Conventional azo, peroxy, redox, and gamma-ray initiators are used in batch and continuous processes. Recent patents describe processes for preparing transparent and stable microlatexes by inverse microemulsion polymerization. New methods have also been described for reducing residual acrylamide monomer in finished products. [Pg.139]
