Naphthalenediol. This diol is made by the hydrolytic desulfonation of 2,3-naphthalenediol-6-sulfonic acid at ca 180°C. It is used as a coupler forming a2o dyes which are appHed in reprographic processes. 

Coupling tetra2o (7) with o-cresol has been reported to give a dye (19) which is less alkah-sensitive than Direct Yellow 4 (Cl 24890) and to have better cold-water solubiUty than Direct Yellow 12 (Cl 24895) (18). One reference is made to a stilbene laser dye (10) and two each to dyes for 1ight-po1ari2ing films (34,35) and reprographic inks (36,37). 

PVF resins have also been used in a variety of other appHcations, including conductive films (152), electrophotographic binders (153), as a component for inks (154), and in membranes (155,156), photoimaging (157), solder masks (158), and reprographic toners (159). 

The first one-step print process was introduced by Land in 1947 (3). A comprehensive account of one-step photography detailing the development of instant black-and-white and color processes from 1944 through 1976 is available (4). Subsequent developments in instant photography and related reprographic processes through 1988 have also been described (5). Photothermographic Color Films. Several photothermographic materials fall within the speed class of reprographic films. 

In the instant reprographic field, Copycolor materials are used extensively in Europe but are not distributed in the United States. Principal markets are in seismological charts and maps for the oil industry, mapmaking, and reproduction of large graphs, charts, and engineering drawings. The films are also used for small color stats and for position proofs in layout work. 

As the application of diazo photolysis in reprographic techniques is, in part, carried out in the dry state, dediazoniation in the gas phase was investigated by Ambroz and Kemp (1979 b, 1982 b). They found that, in contrast to the reaction in solution, 2,4,5-trimethoxybenzenediazonium hexafluorophosphate decomposes in the gas phase by photo/ eterolysis as the primary process.
