Release of Carbene Ligands

In order to release carbene ligands and prepare a variety of organic compounds, the following methods may be utilized oxidation [reactions (5.106)-(5.108)], reduction [reactions (5.100)-(5.105)], decomposition by acids and bases, thermal decomposition, as well as substitution of carbene ligands. [Pg.315]

Fischer-type complexes react only with selected activated olefins. More reactive carbene complexes which do not contain heteroatoms in the alkylidene ligand react with a greater number of olefins. [Pg.316]

Acetylenes also react with carbene compounds [cf. reaction (5.96)].  [Pg.316]

Reactions of acetylenes with metal carbenes may also lead to linear products. [Pg.317]

Nucleophilic alkylidene complexes of niobium and tantalum react with ketones and aldehydes to afford olefins. [Pg.317]
