Desensitization requires exposure of the cells to agonists while antagonists do not provoke this event [53]. It appears therefore that occupancy of the GnRH receptor alone is not the step responsible for development of the desensitized state. Agents believed to cause microaggregation results in development of desensitization even when the receptor is occupied by an antagonist [53].
