Reimplantation with Extraction in Mind

Reimplantation of a new lead after extraction is a procedure requiring physician experience, skill, and often patience, particularly when it is not possible to perform an early reimplantation. The indication for the previous extraction can explain different reimplantation settings. Timing of reimplantation of a new device system after extraction of an infected device remains a subject of debate and correct duration of antibiotic therapy is considered necessary for a safe procedure. In our experience, the presence of vegetations does not usually preclude early reimplantation, but we believe appropriate antibiotic coverage before extraction is the key to preventing
