Stephen Crane was a late-nineteenth-century American short story writer, novelist, poet, and journalist. His best-known novels are Maggie, A Girl of the Streets (1893), originally rejected by publishers because of Crane s sympathetic portrayal of the main character, and The Red Badge of Courage (1895), a Civil War story told so vividly that many veterans claimed participation in its fictional events. Some of Crane s stories include The Open Boat, The Blue Hotel," and The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky. This story was first published in 1895. [Pg.626]
