Recycling of magnesium

The main benefit is the optimised recycling of magnesium. Internal recycling has the added benefit of eliminating transport to an external recycling plant. The metal efficiency of the recycling is increased by type-specific melting. [Pg.153]

Ethylhexanol is usually produced by subsequent aldolization of butyraldehyde produced in the oxo reaction followed by hydrogenation of the intermediate unsaturated aldehyde.89 In Esso s Aldox process, however, in situ aldol condensation is effected by suitable promoters.11 Magnesium ethoxide and soluble zinc compounds are recommended to promote controlled aldolization during the oxo reaction. The Shell variant uses potassium hydroxide. Serious disadvantages (mixed aldolization with the branched aldehyde, problems associated with recycling of the additives), however, prevented wider use of the Aldox process. [Pg.378]

Magnesium in methanol effects the reductive ring opening of the cyclic peroxide 911, recyclization of which affords 4,6,6-trimethyl-5,6-dihydropyran-2-one in good yield (Equation 362) <2004JOC2851>. [Pg.621]

Several advantages accrue to this type of electrolytic process higher yield, avoidance of recycle of the lead metal, and potential flexibility of product production in the electrolysis step. However, the process requires pelletization of the lead metal, it consumes magnesium instead of the less costly sodium in the conventional batch alloy process, and it requires very precise process control as compared with the batch alloy process. [Pg.61]
