As shown by the flow chart in Fig. 49, at first a wave number plane is divided into a mesh with 128 x 128 rectangular mesh points. Then the amplitude of the concentration fluctuation at t = 0 corresponding to each... 

The physical properties of the particle are the same as FCC particles. The simulation is conducted using a 140 x 140 x 200 rectangular mesh covering a 7 mm x7mmx 10 mm computational domain. Both the 3-D images and the temperature field are shown in this figure.

Air parcel trajectories were computed on a two-dimensional horizontal grid using numerically analyzed meteorological data. The trajectory model has been described in detail by Nordlund et al. (1985). The meteorological data analyses are based on simultaneous synoptical surface observations and sounding and satellite data from the whole of the northern hemisphere. These data are numerically analyzed onto constant pressure levels on a rectangular mesh system. The mesh is about 150 km wide, and the values within each grid square are comput by linear interpolation procedures. 

Algebraic details of the first step depend on the discretization scheme. In the following, the orthogonal rectangular mesh system will be used to obtain illustrative examples. 

Consider a local rectangular domain centered at the intersection of two mutually perpendicular mesh lines. A central approximation of the divergence operator may be derived for the uniform rectangular mesh by using spatial derivatives of the flux fields given by Equation (3). Although present examples are based on the field equations which are restricted to films of uniform viscosity, generalization to treat the effects of cross-film viscosity variation is a matter of rounding out details. The same can be said about extending L.P.D.E.M. to be used with non-rectangular mesh setups.
