The experiments were carried out on a vertical machining center. The silicon nitride workpieces were clamped to a vice firmly fixed onto the base of a strain gauge dynamometer. The dynamometer was clamped onto the machining center table and the reciprocating grinding operation was performed. [Pg.226]

The cube has a three-fold axis along each body diagonal. Grinding down the vertex of a solid cube along the three-fold axis exposes a new triangular face. Grinding away from all vertices until the triangles meet, an octahedron is produced. A similar, inverse operation performed on an octahedron produces a cube. The two polyhedra are said to be reciprocal. The dodecahedron and the icosahedron are reciprocal in the same sense. [Pg.89]

A typical surface grinder is shown in Fig. 10.1 and uses a 300 mm diameter by 25 mm wide grinding wheel. The reciprocating table and cross-slide movements are hydraulically operated, although alternative hand operation is provided. [Pg.150]

Surface grinding workpiece is mounted on a reciprocating or rotating bed and a rotating abrasive wheel (either horizontal or vertical axis of rotation) is fed across the surface. [Pg.151]

In the case of surface grinding the material is removed by the diamond grains at the periphery of the grinding wheel, which is reciprocating rapidly over the workpiece as it is gradually lowered to the final depth of the cut. [Pg.122]
