Read One More Time

As noted at the beginning of this document-writing section, the focus is on production—generating a document with minimal effort and maximum communication potential. A small diversion is in order at this point in the process. When your document is finished, and after you have used the spell checker on your word processor, take one last critical look at it. Table 3.5 presents suggested proofing tips based, in part, on Alexander (2001) and Walesh (2000). [Pg.96]

Search for errors in syntax, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and facts and find omissions. At a higher level, consider refinements you could use to enhance communication with your readers. Perhaps your document needs a sentence shortened, a table tightened, or a figure fixed. Then perhaps ask your spouse, significant other, a friend, or colleague to critically read the document. They offer a fresh perspective. Make whatever refinements are needed to yield a final polished product. [Pg.96]
