Reactions of alkaline earth metal dimers

Only one reaction has been reported in this category, Mg2 + F2, which gives MgF + F, or MgF + MgF [353]. The cross-section for the channel forming the excited dihalide product is at least an order of magnitude greater than that for the formation of two monohalides.
