Reactions of alkaline earth dihalides

This is analogous to CsBr + ICl and involves end-on attack to yield (Bal) (I—H—Cl) and gives direct back scattering of the BalCl product. 

The CO vibrational population distribution observed in the reaction with C02 was found to be statistical assuming a long-lived CH2C02 intermediate is formed. However, the CO distribution from the reaction CH2 + 02 is cooler than the statistical prediction. It is suggested that CO may be produced by more than one channel, such as HCOOH giving H20 + CO and HCO + OH, where the HCO may then undergo a subsequent decomposition to yield cooler CO.
