Reach, Benjamin

The main difficulty in these simulations is the long-range nature of the Coulomb interactions, since both mirror-plane images and real charges must be included, and the finite nature of the simulated volume must also be mchided. A more detailed discussion is given by Benjamin [29], and the following conclusions have been reached. 

Good overall agreement was obtained in the conclusions reached on folding-by-parts in albumin by immunochemical (Teale and Benjamin, 1976, 1977) and small ligand binding measurements (Johanson et al., 1977, 1981). This serves to increase our confidence in the usefulness of immunochemical approaches to this kind of problem. 

It can be seen immediately that the experimental values of c/U reach a value of 3 only at very small flow rates, near the flow rate for the onset of rippling, which is the zone for which Benjamin s theory is strictly applicable. The experimental values fall below the Kapitsa value of 2.4 at NRC = 30. The theoretical relationship by Ishihara et al. predicts that c/u will decrease as NRe increases, but less rapidly than observed experimentally. However, this theory is strictly applicable only at very small channel slopes and for waves of negligibly small amplitude, so that exact agreement cannot be expected. 

The Forth Bridge, designed by Sir Benjamin Baker and opened in 1890, is perhaps the most impressive in existence. For centuries the traveller wishing to cross the Forth at its junction with the sea had been dependent on ferry-boats, and many a one had been overtaken by a gale which prevented his ever reaching the other side. In 1805 it was proposed to construct a double tunnel, some 15 feet wide, under the bed of the Forth, one tunnel for the comers and one for the goers as was quaintly explained but nothing came of it.

This permutite filtrate was also tested by Dr. Benjamin Alexander in a patient with an initial R.B.C. level of 1.4 million. In a daily dosage of 0.035 mg., without accessory factors added, a maximum reticulocyte response of 11.4% was obtained on the 6th day and the final R.B.C. level of 1.9 million was reached on the 10th day (personal communication). The isolation of the active fraction is summarized in Table XVII.
