1 Radical transfer reactions to low molecular mass species 

For many polymerisations it is observed that P is lower than is predicted on the basis of termination by combination or disproportionation. This is caused by the occurrence of chain transfer reactions to low molecular mass species. The chain transfer agent, T, can be solvent, monomer, initiator, polymer or modifier . 

The growing chain is stopped, but reinitiation with rate constant k- can take place
