Radiation pagers

The human senses cannot detect radiation and so radiation detectors must be used. Small detectors called radiation pagers (Figure 5.8) are readily available and should be worn by responders to any suspicious event. These devices will readily detect even small amounts of gamma radiation. Older, Civil Defense type, (Figure 5.9) units can be utilized to detect energetic gamma-beta emitters such as Cs-137 or Co-60 however, biologically active and medical isotopes such as radioactive...
