Radiation: concern over fallout

In the midst of the growing debate over radioactivity in milk, the Public Health Service s National Advisory Committee on Radiation issued an analysis of the question that, like its 1959 report on radiation protection, attracted widespread interest. The Service had requested the advisory committee to examine the problems of fallout contamination after the Soviet resumption of atmospheric testing in September 1961. It was particularly concerned with the advantages and disadvantages of taking countermeasures to reduce public exposure to fallout if readings reached a disturbing level.
