The second-order rate constant for the repair of LUT+ is approximately half the value observed for ZEA,+ (5.2 x 106 M 1 s-1)- This lower second-order rate constant for LUT may reflect LUT s orientation within the bilayer, as discussed in Section 14.2 for the quenching of singlet oxygen by LUT. 

The course of viral photodynamic inactivation in allantoic fluid is probably directed by the following process the initial period of induction is a result of the quenching of singlet oxygen (or other reactive forms of oxygen) by natural antioxidants present in the fluid (Kolb, 1991). Subsequently, a dramatic drop in the viral titer was observed. This then reached a plateau due to the consumption of the active fraction of the fullerene. This may be indirectly confirmed by the results of viral titration after the addition of a new portion of fullerene when the process of inactivation was observed again. 

A further role has been attributed to (Cu,Zn)-SOD the quenching of singlet oxygen. This raises, moreover, the question of the unlikely production of singlet oxygen in biological systems by non-photochemical means. 

Neglecting semantic differences for the description of an intermediate (Structures 36) not yet characterized, we may assume that the physical quenching of singlet oxygen by phenothiazine proceeds via...
