Quantum mechanics research background

We begin with the assumption that you have a background in some part of the life sciences or related fields, and that your familiarity with quantum mechanics and the related mathematics (together abbreviated as QM) may be limited or even nonexistent. It is possible to apply biomolecular EPR spectroscopy in your field of research ignoring the QM part, however, for a full appreciation of the method and to develop skills for its all-round applicability, the QM has to be mastered too. [Pg.4]

Weyl thus answered the second question in his investigations of the mathematical analysis of the space problem. His researches with the representation theory of Lie groups started because of his diverse background, from the philosophy of mathematics to the natural sciences. Further, he clarified Heisenberg s non-commuting physical quantities in quantum mechanics, which were initially stated in a mathematical form rather than a physical form. [Pg.83]

The primary purpose of the book is to provide a detailed understanding of the principles and techniques of molecular quantum mechanics. It is intended as both a classroom and reference textbook for graduate students, advanced undergraduate students, and researchers with diverse backgrounds. [Pg.186]

Our ambition is to provide a modern introduction to the field of relativistic quantum chemistry, aimed at the advanced student and the practicing nonspecialist researcher. The material has been divided into five parts. Parts I and II provide the necessary background from classical physics, relativistic quantum mechanics, and group theory. Part III covers the application of these principles to fully relativistic methods for quantum chemistry within a four-component framework. Part IV deals with the main... [Pg.536]

Oxidation of hydrocarbons has long been considered as a fundamental problem to atmospheric chemists, both from experimental and theoretical points of view, because of the inherent complexity. The reaction kinetics and mechanism of atmospheric hydrocarbons have been the focuses of numerous researches in both experimental and theoretical aspects. Although advances have been made in elucidation of the VOC oxidation mechanisms, large uncertainty and tremendous numbers of unexplored reactions still remain. Several review articles on the atmospheric degeneration of VOCs have been published [4,11-14]. In this review, recent advances in the application of theoretical methods to the atmospheric oxidation of biogenic hydrocarbons are discussed. We will introduce the backgrounds on the quantum chemical calculations and kinetic rate theories, recent progress on theoretical studies of isoprene and a-, y3-pinenes, and studies on other monoter-penes and sesquiterpenes. [Pg.178]
