Qualified Person concept

Securities Commission established the Mining Standards Task Force. One of the key recommendations, a Qualified Person (QP) concept, was developed. [Pg.474]

Several means are available to prevent individuals from coming into contact with electricity in addition to exclusbn of unqualified personnel from space, as mentioned in the introduction to this section. These include insulation, grounding, good wiring practices, and mechanical devices. Before addressing these latter options, it might be well to briefly discuss the concept of a qualified person. [Pg.340]

The concept of the Qualified Person (QP, see also Sect. 25.3.4), giving the final responsibility for release to an appointed individual with a required set of skills, was introduced in manufacturing through the EU GMP. The QP responsibility includes all aspects in relation to quality of the released products as well as conformance with regulatory requirements as appropriate. Even today the QP concept is a keystone in EU GMP, and to be seen as a significant difference in GMP understanding compared with other regions. [Pg.772]

The EU Directive [3] introduced the concept of an individual taking responsibility for releasing a batch of product to market. This position, uifique to Europe, is defined by the Qualified Person. This individual has to take decisions independent fi om the Board. The role is further elaborated on in the Guide to GMP (see also Sect. 25.3.4). This role is only defined for products with a Marketing Authorisation and Investigational Medical Products. However the function is equally applicable to preparations made by the pharmacist. Pharmacies should nominate a person, independent of the preparation function, to be responsible for the release of the preparation. [Pg.783]

The first person to recognize the essential nature of acids and bases was Svante Arrhenius. Based on his experiments with electrolytes, Arrhenius postulated that acids produce hydrogen ions in aqueous solution, and bases produce hydroxide ions. At the time of its discovery the Arrhenius concept of acids and bases was a major step forward in quantifying acid—base chemistry, but this concept is limited because it applies only to aqueous solutions and allows for only one kind of base—the hydroxide ion. A more general definition of acids and bases was suggested independently by the Danish chemist Johannes N. Bronsted (1879-1947) and the English chemist Thomas M. Lowry (1874-1936) in 1923. In terms of the Bronsted—Lowry definition, an acid is a proton (H+) donor, and a base is a proton acceptor. For example, when gaseous HCl dissolves in water, each HCl molecule donates a proton to a water molecule, and so HCl qualifies as a Bronsted-Lowry acid. The molecule that accepts the proton—water in this case—is a Bronsted-Lowry base. [Pg.227]

Initially, and from a purely technical point of view, the smart textile concept may be perceived as the result of a convergence between two industries textiles and electronics. The miniaturization of electronics makes it possible for people to carry with them all kinds of devices, qualified as portables , that have functions ranging from leisure (Walkman, MP3, portable television) to communication and information management (mobile phones, personal digital assistants) to health (pacemakers, physiological sensors of parameters). [Pg.5]
