Q-groups

A wide variety of organosiUcone resins containing a combination of M, D, T, and/or Q groups have been prepared and many are commercially manufactured. In addition, resins containing hydrosilation-reactive SiH and SiVi groups or other functionahties, including OH and phenyl groups, are known. Two classes of sihcone resins are most widely used in the sihcone industry MQ and TD resins. 

The E/Z nomenclature is here extended to apply not only to the C=C double bond but also to the bond linking the C=C and C=Q groups, which has some double bond character.

D MAS NMR techniques In the previous section, we reported applications of ID NMR spectroscopy, which enables the determination and quantitative characterisation of different phosphorus groups Q" via deconvolution of 31P resonances. Unfortunately, such an approach has at least two limitations. First, the 31P MAS NMR spectra suffer from broad and overlapping signals, and these methods fail when more complicated systems are to be analysed. Second, the structural information is significantly limited, for example the connectivities of Q group or through-space interactions cannot be established from only ID spectra. To overcome these limitations, it is necessary to apply more advanced 2D NMR techniques. 

An interesting sesquicarbide, Mg2Q, can be prepared relatively pure by reaction of Mg dust with n-pentane at 680°C. In the solid state, it contains Q units these species are linear, isoelectronic with C02, and have C—C distances of 1.332(2) A.34 Other known sesquicarbides are SC3C4 (which contains a portion of Q groups next to Q and Q (units) and a relatively stable lithium derivative, Li4Q. Pnictides LnQ (Q = Group 15 element) having the NaCl structure are made by direct synthesis, with other routes for the nitrides including the reaction of the lanthanide hydride with either nitrogen or aimnonia hke the carbides, they are readily hydrolyzed to the hydride QH3.
