The PVDF production in Thorofare, NJ, was originally built by Pennwalt and was diversified to Ausimont in 1999. In late 2001, Solvay started up its Decater, Alabama, plant with a capacity of 5000 MT. In 2002, Ausimont sold its Thorofare plant to Solvay and Solvay diversified its Decater plant to Dyneon (a 3M subsidiary). In 2003, Arkema expanded its PVDF production in Pierre-Benite, France. [Pg.2384]

Polyvinylidene fluoride, is a fluorinated semi-crystalline thermoplastic which has a continuous use service temperature of up to 150 °C and a very low dielectric constant. Current manufacturers include Arkema which has become legally separated from its former owner. Total. PVDF applications include its use as fuel cell membrane material, film material in capacitors and as electrolyte material in sodium sulfur batteries. In the US, NASA has employed a crosslinked polystyrene sulfonic acid (PSSA)/PVDF composite as a PEM. [Pg.21]

Total claims to be the world s fifth largest producer of petrochemicals with a world ranking of number 3 in both PP and PS. In technical polymers Arkema claims world market leadership in the production of PAll and 12 (Rilsan) as well as in PVDF and fluoropolymers (Kynar). Arkema also claims world leadership in the production of PMMA with the Altuglas and Plexiglas brands. Arkema manufactures Nanostrength nanoparticles. [Pg.104]

Arkema has expanded its PVDF manufacturing capacity at Pierre-Benite near Orleans in France. One of Arkema s main polymer R D projects is the development of fuel cells using PVDF conductive material for the membranes. [Pg.104]

Other fluorinated polymers include polyvinylidenedifluoride (PVDF), made by the polymerization of 1,1-difluorelhylene. PVDF is known by its tradenames, Kynar (Arkema) and Mylar (Solvay) and is less expensive. It has excellent chemical resistance and is used as a coating for metals and for wire jacketing. [Pg.128]

Two sets of samples were used in this study. The first set is consists of two commercial PVDF samples manufactured by Arkema Inc. under the trademark Kynar (here labeled VI and V2) and vary in their molecular weight and viscosity. The second set contains two PVDF samples containing chain branching and with different molecular weights and viscosities (VF-CBl and VF-CB2). Some properties of these samples are shown in Table 1. [Pg.1103]
