NMR spectroscopy pulsed

The NMR signals in virtually all modem NMR spectrometers are obtained by a combination of pulsed NMR and Fourier transformation, as illustrated in [Pg.39]

It is the use of pulsed NMR that allows us to probe in detail the structure and dynamics of polymers. The polymer spin system can be perturbed with rf pulses and its return to equilibrium can be measured. The degree to which the spins are rotated by the rf pulses depends on the nuclei, the strength of the rf field, and the pulse length. The tip angle (6) is given by  [Pg.40]

Note that such methods are also powerful tools to study the molecular structure, since the relaxation rates depend on the inverse sixth power of the internuclear distance (r////). Because of this dependence, these methods are useful for structural measurements in the range of 2-5 A. [Pg.41]

Since the advent of pulsed NMR spectroscopy, a number of advanced two-dimensional techniques have been devised. These methods afford valuable information for the solution of complex structural problems. The technical detail behind multi-dimensional NMR is beyond the scope of this book. [Pg.80]

Kok et al.187 have used pulsed NMR spectroscopy to investigate magnetic relaxation of the 121Sb nucleus in tetramethylantimony iodide, tetraphenylantimony sulfate, fluoride and chloride. It has been concluded that the geometry of the tetraphenylantimony cation in water or methanol deviated significantly from the tetrahedral. [Pg.160]

Lyerla et al. have applied pulsed NMR spectroscopy and m ic-angle spinning techniques to obtain the first spectra of carbenium ions in the solid state. Low-temperature spectra of immobilised reactive entities allow the characterisation of otherwise elusive ecies. [Pg.247]

This experiment incorporates advanced theory and data analysis. In this experiment, you will use one- and two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy to investigate the solution structure of the brown [Ni(salpd)] complex. A brief introduction to pulsed NMR spectroscopy is given Appendix 1. [Pg.81]

It is now more than ten years since the late Andy Derome s book "Modem NMR Techniques for Chemistry Research" was published. This book had a tremendous impact on organic chemists use of the developing field of pulsed NMR spectroscopy, bringing to the chemist the power of these methods in a practical form for the elucidation of molecular structure. It is probably true that NMR spectroscopy has had the greatest impact on chemical research since the development of the accurate balance. Interestingly both of these techniques, i.e. weighing and NMR, are based on nuclear properties. [Pg.388]

In purchasing a pulse NMR spectrometer and magnet, all of these general considerations as well as those discussed in V.B.4. about dealing with manufacturers are applicable. It is wise to buy as flexible an instrument as one can afford. The field of pulse NMR spectroscopy is changing rapidly and it would be tragic to be limited by some needless instrumental characteristics. In addition, it seems to be a fact of life that we never can think of all of the uses of device capabilities until we actually use them. A serious alternative to purchasing a complete spectrometer is to construct one out of commercial components and the reader is referred to section V.C. for further discussions. [Pg.349]
