Public censure

Medicines Control Agency carries the potential for public censure of the medical advisor, financial penalty and perhaps even trial in the high court. 

They may fear public censure "What will friends and family think of us "... 

Stroup, A Company of Scientists, 75-116. Du Clos renounced alchemy publicly and converted to Catholicism on his death bed to ensure the career of his nephew (Stroup, Censure ). 

Richard Anschutz (Darmstadt lo March 1852-8 January 1937) was professor in Bonn (1898-1922). He published much work in organic chemistry and edited publications by Couper and Loschmidt for Ostwald s Klassiker, His work on Kekule August Kekule, 2 vols., Berlin, 1929) has often been quoted in this volume. He synthesised anthracene (see p. 562), hydroxycou-marins, and hexaphenylethane. Anschutz was a warm admirer of Couper, and it is said that when he lectured to British prisoners of war in World War I, and was censured by the German authorities, he excused himself by saying There might be another Couper among them. He was made honorary Ll.D. of Aberdeen in 1906. 

It is evident from these considerations, that the plurality of the executive tends to deprive the people of the two greatest securities they can have for the faithful exercise of any delegated power first, the restraints of public opinion, which lose their efficacy as well on account of the division of the censure attendant on bad measures among a number, as on account of the uncertainty on whom it ought to fall and secondly, the opportunity of discovering with facility and clearness the misconduct of the persons they trust, in order either to their removal from office, or to their actual punishment, in cases which admit of it.
