Proteins a special case

Many globular proteins contain prosthetic groups with metal ions and sensitive thiol groups which may be poisoned by slow leakage of metal ions from the welding in the joints of stainless steel equipment. To overcome this potential problem, two manufacturers have designed equipment to minimise contact with any stainless steel. [Pg.29]

LKB manufacture a reciprocating twin-pump system with pump heads made of KEL-F. Gradients are formed by a low volume mixer which is located on the low pressure side of the pump, thereby [Pg.29]

Applied Biosystems Ltd. recently made an addition to the list of HPLC equipment devoted to proteins. The range consists of a protein sequencer (470 A), a protein purification system (130 A), a peptide synthesiser (430 A) and an amino acid analysis system (120 A). The chromatographic module is a microbore HPLC system specificaUy designed for use with very small quantities of material. The columns consist of Brownlee cartridges. Flow rates in the order of 10 to 100 [Pg.30]

This section is not written as a detailed description of each category of detector but as an overview to allow the reader to gain a basic understanding of the potential uses of a given detector. For a fuller account of the use and operation of detectors the reader is referred elsewhere (Scott, 1977). Detection can be conveniently categorised into those modes which depend upon  [Pg.31]
