Properties of 2-Nitroethanol

2-Nitroethanol is a pale yeUow liquid and miscible in water, with melting point of -80 °C, boiling point of 194 °C (65 mmHg), density of 1.27 g/ml (25 °C), refractive index (020) of 1.445, flash point of 230 °F, molar refractive index of 18.87, molar volume (m /mol) of 71.8, isotonic hematocrit (90.2 K) of 187.0, surface tension (dyne/cm) of 45.9, polarization ratio (10 cm ) of 7.48. [Pg.173]

2-Nitroethanol is slightly toxic with mice acute poisoning (peritoneum) LD50 of 2,100 mg/kg. Because salt LD50 is 3,000 mg/kg, the acute toxicides of BPA and salt are the same. [Pg.173]

2-Nitroethanol should be stored in a sealed container and kept in a cool dry place. It cannot be stored together with strong acidic and basic materials. It should be kept far away from the acid chloride and acid anhydride. [Pg.174]
