Properties final processing conditions

It has been said that in order for proteinaceous bioplastics to be commercially feasible, they need to be processable using equipment currently used for synthetic thermoplastics. Proteinaceous bioplastics are often brittle and water sensitive, and overcoming this is one of the driving forces behind research in this field. Physiochemical properties and processing conditions are often governed by the protein s structural properties, and therefore also final material properties.

Molecular weight and polydispersity often can be manipulated. The degree of control over these properties will depend on the polymerization mechanism, conditions during polymerization, and final processing conditions, Polymers with low polydispersity have higher and sharper melting points than those... 

Restrictions with regard to material combinations - even for compatible materials, the choice of a certain grade could influence adhesion and give inferior properties. Since processing conditions can affect the rates of interdiffusion of skin and core, they can also affect the properties of the final component. Again, the effects are complicated and not well imderstood. 

The cmrent work is geared toward understanding the effect of material properties and process conditions on the film casting process and thermomechanical properties of the final film. We focus on two polypropylene samples with different molecular weights/viscosities. The experimental results are compared to model predietions. 

The following sections also include brief presentations of manufacturing procedures because the final properties of the fibers depend on the processing conditions. For more about the stmcture or mechanical characteristics of the fibers, the reader is directed to more comprehensive discussions presented elsewhere in the Eniyclopedia or in the Hterature (8,24—30). 

Some relevant effects of the polymorphism on the properties of polymeric materials are shown in the final section.
