Prollius fluid

In cases where simple laboratory facilities were available, extraction with Prollius fluid [ 1211, a mixture of ethanol, chloroform and concentrated ammonia, was used by Webb as a supplement to the acid extraction method, or in some instances as an alternative to it [17, 18]. No acute toxic effects were observed in rats intraperitoneally administered 3.6 ml/kg of ether, chloroform, water, or Prollius fluid extract of poke root. The extracts were prepared such that 1 ml was equivalent to 1 g of dried poke root. In rats administered an alcohol extract at the same dose, catharsis and uresis occurred, followed by drowsiness, labored breathing, paralysis of the lower limbs, failure of respiration, and death (Ahmed et al. 1949).
